Mexican Wedding Traditions
The traditions of Mexico are always incorporated in every Mexican wedding. From the wedding attire to the reception, every detail should be based on Mexican wedding traditions. One customary wedding dress is the Huipil. This wedding dress has short sleeves and has a full-gown length. It is designed with intricate hand-embroidery of flowers or geometric shapes. The Mexican wedding shirt is worn by the groom and is often white in color, have four patches, and pleated vertical lines in the front and back.
The sponsors of the wedding also form part in Mexican wedding traditions. The padrinos or sponsors of the wedding are often the godparents of the couple and they are the ones who pay for wedding costs. These padrinos also act as mentors throughout the engagement and marriage of the couple. To honor their sponsors, the bride and groom give them a special place at the wedding reception.
Lassos and arras are part of a traditional Mexican wedding ceremony. These two are used to symbolically bind the couple as husband and wife. The lasso symbolizes the never-ending love of the couple for each other and the commitment they have with their married life. The arras is a gift presented by the groom to his wife to symbolize his commitment to support his wife and be a good provider to the family.
The wedding reception, as part of Mexican wedding traditions, is filled with festivities and celebrations. Mariachi music is used and money dances are used. Money dances involve the paying of the guests an amount of money so they can dance with the bride.
