Traditional Mexican Weddings

Traditional Mexican weddings are one of the most celebrated occasions in this Latin territory. And although they are very much culture-oriented and religious-based, we can safely assume that they are not very different among the other marital ceremonies in the world.

Traditional Mexican weddings are largely based on the assumption that it is the union of two people as guided by the church. It is for this reason that the family and religion plays a very huge part in these celebrations. Prior the main event, the family of the groom will have to ask for the hand of the bride from her family. This is usually characterized by the guy visiting the residence of the bride with all sorts of gifts as a way of expressing his pure and clean intentions. There are also families that are much stricter because they really require that the man will never meet the girl as soon as their engagement was announced.  Although this is just some form of formality, many families still insist in sticking with these ways to preserve the sanctity and conservatism of the occasion. You must understand that this is more of an ecclesiastical family event rather than a civil or legal one.

The godparents are also highly regarded in traditional Mexican weddings because they are usually the people who are in charge with the whole event. They are the ones who oversee the scheduling, the receptions that are going to be conducted, the venue of the ceremony itself, and even the guests that should be invited. Aside from these responsibilities, the godparents, who are called the padrinos, also take care of the cost. It is then very important that the couple will make a very good choice as to who their godparents will be. However, although it is totally their discretion as to who they should pick, the parents can also have a say and they are rarely disobeyed. Aside from these technical responsibilities of the padrinos, they also serve as counsellors and advisors that will guide the couple during the course of the engagement until the marriage commences.

Aside from a very elaborate and stressful preparation, the event itself is a total and all out celebration. It is characterized by lively dances, festive foods, colorful decorations and a lot of merry making. Typically, traditional Mexican weddings are a very festive but still religious event that one would surely enjoy.
